About

Most of my earliest memories involve music – playing music, listening to music, singing music.

So it make sense that after a few years, I would ask “Why do we like the music we like?”

If you’re a music lover, a songwriter, a musician, or a composer, you might have asked the same question.

It’s easy to say “We like it because it’s catchy”, but let’s go deeper. What makesĀ it catchy?

There are some patterns that are easy to notice.

We really like repetition – but not too much of it. We really like the pentatonic scale. We really like 2-to-4-chord progressions. We like having a Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Bridge-Chorus structure.

So what made some songs stand out from the rest?
